Hispanic Healthcare Trends

  • As a result of the launch of the Affordable Care Act, significantly more Hispanic and non-Hispanic adults reported having healthcare coverage in May 2014 compared to November 2013 (open enrollment for 2014 ran from October ‘13 – March ‘14).
  • For Hispanics, the increase was clearly driven by the Least Acculturated who in November ’13 had by far the lowest health insurance coverage compared to Biculturals and the Most Acculturated.
  • Among Hispanics, much of the increase came from the purchase of individual health insurance plans. Among non-Hispanics, more are taking advantage of employer-based coverage.
